Is Spanish Immersion Right
for My Preschooler?
As parents, we want the very best for our children—not just academically, but also spiritually, socially, and emotionally. If you’re considering Spanish Immersion Preschool, you may have questions about how your child will adjust, how they will be cared for, and how this unique experience will align with your family’s faith. At NorthPointe Christian Schools, we believe that language learning is a gift from God, and we are honored to walk alongside families as their children grow in both knowledge and faith.
Why choose NorthPointe’s Spanish Immersion Preschool?
For students that begin Spanish at a young age, they are able to naturally pick up on the language in the similar way to learning English as a baby. Students’ brains and palettes are malleable and can more easily gain proficiency in a second language when they begin at a young age. Our partnership with ada.a.lingua ensures best practices in language development.
At NPC, we see Spanish Immersion as more than just an academic opportunity; it’s a way to equip students to connect with and serve others in an increasingly diverse world. Learning a second language can open doors for sharing Christ’s love with people from different backgrounds and cultures. What a beautiful way to reflect the heart of God, who created and delights in every nation and tongue!
Will my child be able to understand what’s happening in class?
It’s natural to wonder how your child will adjust to a classroom where Spanish is the primary language. To ease the transition, we begin the year with an English-speaking puppet who helps introduce classroom routines, procedures, and expectations. As children grow comfortable, the puppet gradually steps back, allowing the teacher to fully immerse them in Spanish.
God has created children with an incredible ability to learn language—far more easily than adults! Even if they don’t understand every word at first, they quickly begin to pick up meaning through songs, movement, pictures, and engaging activities. It’s a joy to watch how naturally they begin to understand and use Spanish within just a few months.
This is my child’s first time away from me—how will they be nurtured and cared for?
At NPC, our Spanish Immersion preschool teachers see their work as more than a job—it’s a calling. They not only teach, but also love and nurture each child as Christ calls us to do. Just like in any other preschool classroom at NPC, your child will be warmly greeted each morning, given hugs and encouragement, and cared for when they feel upset.
We believe that every child is created in the image of God and has immeasurable worth. Our teachers intentionally foster a classroom environment where children feel safe, loved, and valued. Through prayer, biblical truths, and Christ-centered interactions, students not only grow in their language skills but also in their understanding of God’s love for them.
If I don’t speak Spanish, how will my child be able to learn the language?
Many parents in our program do not speak Spanish at home—and that’s completely okay! Your child will learn Spanish naturally at school through daily interactions with their teacher and classmates. There is no expectation that families speak Spanish at home.
As parents, you can support your child simply by encouraging them and celebrating their progress. You may even find them excited to teach you a new word or phrase, giving you the chance to learn alongside them!
What does a typical day look like for a Spanish Immersion preschooler?
A day in our Spanish Immersion preschool program looks much like any other Christ-centered preschool experience—just in Spanish! Students enjoy:
- Bible stories, songs, and prayers to start the day rooted in God’s Word
- Fun, hands-on learning centers that encourage creativity and exploration
- Crafts, games, and sensory activities that build both academic and social skills
- Learning colors, numbers, and letters in Spanish through engaging activities
- Snack and lunch time, where they practice gratitude and good table manners
- Rest time, allowing them to recharge for the afternoon
- Outdoor play at recess, where they grow in friendship and teamwork
Every part of the day is designed to help children flourish—academically, socially, and spiritually—while acquiring a second language in a natural, joyful way.
