Reading and Grammar

The Daily 5 is our school-wide framework for our literacy time.  Students learn through five authentic reading and writing activities.  These activities include:  Read to Self, Writing, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, and Word Work.  We also implement Imagine It! Reading Curriculum.  Shurley Grammar is a thorough, step by step, interactive method used in 1st through 5th grade to teach English grammar.  Our literacy program is complemented by Fountas & Pinnell leveled reading assessments in all classrooms Kindergarten through 5th grade, and our leveled library meets the individual needs of each student.

Lucy Calkins curriculum introduces Kindergarten through 2nd graders to the writing process by engaging students in journal and classroom book writing.  IEW Writing Workshop, in 3rd through 5th grade, is a cross curricular writing process. These students learn and implement the writing process across all subjects while incorporating God’s Word and our school mandates.

Each student has a weekly individualized spelling list.

Battle Creek Science curriculum gives students an interactive, inquiry-based approach to study God’s world including physical, earth, and life sciences.

ACSI Bible curriculum allows students to look deeper into God’s word as Bible characters and stories are studied and discussed.  Weekly Scripture memorization is also an important part of our Bible curriculum.

Daily 3 Math activities are implemented in all grades and Interactive Math Notebooks are used in Kindergarten—5th grade.  These notebooks provide a structured way to think through math lessons, where students are able to visualize and learn through an active process.  Harcourt HSP Math textbooks provide a strong math foundation to support lessons. Teachers also engage students in Number Talks, a powerful strategy that helps students develop computational fluency.

Social Studies

McGraw Hill is a comprehensive, interactive social studies curriculum.  Social Study content and themes build year to year within the curriculum. Our teachers weave a Christian worldview into the social studies lessons, and students experience authentic learning though class service projects within our surrounding community.

Technology is integrated in all subject areas to support our curriculum and provide innovative learning opportunities in the classroom.  Our Mac Computer Lab and IPads in each classroom provide students with learning programs and applications such as Edu Typing, XtraMath, and Spelling City.

Character Counts

Our Character Counts curriculum uses godly character traits and Scripture to encourage and develop positive behavior and social interactions in the classroom.  Each classroom utilizes this method of training and discipline, which in turn provides consistency in behavior expectations.

The Bible

God’s Truths are woven into every subject at NPC.  The study of God’s Word and scripture memorization prepare students to impact their world for Jesus Christ. Students worship together and learn more about God’s Word in our weekly chapels.
