What is Marketplace?

Marketplace is an interdisciplinary economy unit for all students in grades 6th-8th.   Students have the opportunity to learn entrepreneurship, economics, and citizenship concepts through project based learning.  The unit culminates with an authentic Marketplace event where students sell a product or service to the community.  

Students take on the following roles:  

  • 8th graders serve as CEO of their own company.  They decide on the company name, product/service, and prepare an informative and persuasive speech for the 6th and 7th graders.   

  • 7th graders serve as General Manager of Marketing for the company that hires them.  Prior to being hired, they develop a cover letter, prepare a resume and interview for their position with the 8th grade CEO.

  • 6th graders serve as the Manager of Operations.  Prior to being hired, they practice writing cover letters and prepare resumes.
