We have two spiritual emphasis weeks during the school year. Chapel time usually includes praise and worship as well as a message. Speakers address our yearly theme as well as touch on age appropriate topics. Speakers provide time for students to respond in meaningful ways.
We had an awesome week with Jory Trim, our Spiritual Emphasis speaker from Trinity Baptist Church. Jory's message was powerful. His sense of humor, love for the Lord and his ability to share God's word was a blessing. He challenged us to "Do Hard Things For The Glory Of God." Here is a quick rundown on the message from each day. I encourage you to spend time at home this weekend discussing the message from the week.
Monday: Matthew 10
Jory shared that life is like a river. We can flow downhill and drift through life, or we can choose to follow God, pick up our cross and swim up river. He reminded us that Jesus isn't a salesman. He doesn't sugar coat the road in front of the disciples. He tells them that it will be a hard road but so rewarding.
-
What kind of hard things does God call you too?
-
Do you serve a safe, just God?
Tuesday: Proverbs 6
Jory reminded us that God has called us to do hard things for him and has equipped each of us with the ability to do so. No one is too young to serve God and do hard things for God.
-
Am I going to do something to glorify God in my teenage years? Or am I going to spend my time and energy on video games and watching TV?
-
Are you active in your church?
-
Do you stand up for what is right when no one is watching?
-
Are you going to be an incredibly hard worker like an ant? Or are you going to be an elephant? (ask your child about the analogy)
-
FUN, FAST, EASY, MORE -These are the four words that researchers say describe teenagers in our culture today. Is this you? There is nothing in the Bible that promotes these things. God calls us to the opposite…we need to break free.
Wednesday: Hebrews 11, Matthew 8, Philippians 2
Jory reminded us that our attitude is what determines our actions. We need humility. We need to realize we are nothing without God, but with God we can have everything.
-
Do I treat others like they are better than me? Or am I selfish? J.O.Y. (Jesus, Others, Yourself)
-
Am I willing to step out? Start a Bible study or attend one? Am I willing to commit to doing daily devotions and have someone hold me accountable?
-
Would I be willing to take a babysitting job, or a summer job to give the money to support a missionary etc?
-
What are the 3 reasons we don't always "Do Hard Things for the Glory of God?"
-
Sloth -Proverbs 13:4 -Lack of discipline or laziness
-
Doubt -II Cor. 12:9 -Do you really believe that we can fully trust that God will take care of us?
-
Fear -II Tim. 1:7 -God gives us the power we need.
Thursday: Matthew 5, I Thessalonians 4, Philippians 4, Romans 12, Ephesians 4
Jory focused on our need for a Savior. We need to be careful not to drift down the river of life. Instead swim against the current. Climb the mountain. God is at the top calling to us "Come to me." He shared that God's standard is perfection and we need to keep pushing toward this.
-
Do you want to hear, "Well done, my good and faithful servant!"?
-
Are you using Philippians 4 to determine what you read, watch or listen to?
Many students were challenged to examine their life and determine if there are things that needed change. Some shared they were convicted to stand up to friends when they hear something mean or negative instead of just standing by. One person shared they felt like they should speak in chapel. It was a great week!
