Elementary Test Scores

What standardized test do we use?

NPC Elementary uses the MAP test (Measures in Academic Progress). This testing format is computerized and is a progressive test that varies based on the way a child answers a particular question. This method allows the test to hone in on specific strengths as well as highlights areas where a child may need additional review. This test is becoming more popular in the last few years on a national level.

How frequently are students tested?

Because of the computerized aspect of these tests, they go much more quickly than the old "bubble" format testing. Students are tested in three sessions (approx. 20-50 minutes each) in late September and are retested again in early Spring. The two test schedule allows teachers to gauge where students are at when they arrive, and show progress and areas for continued review before the end of the year to help the child successfully move to the curriculum in the next grade.

How does NPCS Elementary rank?

Elementary schools don't post their final scores quite like ACT or SAT scores at the High School level, but the test management company tracks the national averages to help us compare ourselves with other elementary schools. The national norm is a score of 50, and NPC Elementary students consistently score in the 70 range or higher- at least 20 points above the national norm! Teachers are continuously tweaking their curriculum to best challenge our students at or above grade level.
