Foreign language has become an increasingly important part of the over-all elementary curriculum. At the early years (preschool, kindergarten and first grade), families have the opportunity to choose a Spanish Immersion program track for their children or parents can enroll them in the traditional program with the experiential Spanish curriculum taught by a Spanish teacher who teaches right in their own room.
Spanish Immersion
Currently, NPC Elementary offers Spanish Immersion Preschool (for 4 year olds) and 3-Full-Day Kindergarten (for 5 year olds). NPCS has contracted with Add.a.Lingua, an organization that helps schools design and implement Spanish immersion programs. NPCS plans to add an additional Spanish Immersion grade section each year until the program includes 5th grade (target date of September 2016). Students in these class sections will be taught by a native Spanish speaker or someone who has lived at least one year immersed in the Spanish language and culture. The staff will comply with all the same standards of excellence and statement of faith as the other NPCS staff & faculty. The curriculum used in these classes will mirror that of the traditional classrooms, but will be taught completely in Spanish. Click here for info on Spanish Immersion.
Foreign Language in Elementary School - Spanish Program
Our Spanish teacher makes visits to each traditional classroom throughout the week teaching each 5-Day Kindergarten through 5th Grade class about 90 minutes of Spanish instruction. The games, projects, and activities done through this program build a great grammatical and vocabulary foundation for the foreign language programs offered at the Middle and High School.
