What kinds of standardized testing is used?
Explore Test- Taken by each 8th grade student once during the year. EXPLORE® contains four curriculum-based assessments: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science. The assessment is based on the major areas of high school and postsecondary instructional programs and measures the skills and knowledge needed for college success. Additionally, EXPLORE includes a career exploration component that stimulates students' thinking about future plans and relates personal characteristics to career options.
NWEA Testing (Northwest Evaluation Association) - Taken by each 6th-8th grade student. These assessments are uniquely designed to provide teachers with the most accurate measurement of student achievement and growth. Students are tested in Math, Reading, Language Usage and Science 2 to 3 times a year. This test benchmarks student growth and is a formative assessment for early learners, this pioneered computer adaptive testing helps us pinpoint—to the goal-strand level—where your students are ready to advance, and where they need help.
What is done with scores?
Teachers use the data collected to help them better hone in on specific strength and weakness areas for students. Test scores are sent home to parents to communicate achievement levels in comparison with their peers at school and nation-wide. Test results are used by teachers to guide and differentiate instruction to best meet the needs of each student.
