NorthPointe is excited to launch our Intergenerational Preschool within Vista Springs Riverside Gardens in the fall of 2017. This planned assisted living community is just blocks from our elementary school. In this intergenerational setting, our young students will learn in a bright preschool classroom equipped with a multitude of hands-on activities. This academic environment prepares children for kindergarten and encourages a love for learning and discovery. Early childhood academic standards are taught through authentic learning experiences within a Christ-centered curriculum that includes intentional intergenerational interactions and activities.
The daily classroom schedule will include gathering time, reading, learning centers, stories, and outdoor play. Preschoolers will also participate in planned intergenerational activities. These may include working together in learning centers, reading time, gardening, or other special projects. Some activities will be centered around our stories - a broad spectrum of life experiences and memories of children and elders alike.
Young students will create, share and listen to stories with their elder friends. Stories are woven into preschool themes and seasons and will enhance learning across curriculum content.
Creating, Sharing, Listening, Reflecting, and Caring are the building blocks used to “bridge the gap” between young and old. Intergenerational relationships developed around these principles teach a child how to create confidently, share willingly, listen intently, reflect thoughtfully, and care wholeheartedly. These characteristics lay a solid foundation for students to impact their world for Jesus Christ.
Research shows the benefits of intergenerational preschools include improved communication and emotional skills, enhanced literacy, increased autonomy, and positive behavior and self-regulation. These experiences in early childhood also help these young students see the intricate needs of the elderly and influence their care in adulthood for the elderly. For NorthPointe, an intergenerational preschool aligns perfectly with our mission of "equipping students to impact their world for Jesus Christ." Not only are our four year olds going to be more equipped academically and emotionally down the road, but they are able to make an impact in the lives of their senior friends today.
We are currently enrolling student who will be turning four by December 1st, 2017.
Intergenerational Preschool meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 8:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. Students may enroll anywhere from two mornings of their choosing to 5 full days. Students enrolled in full days will be transported to NorthPointe Preschool and Elementary campus for the afternoon and Tuesday/Thursday students will meet at our main campus as well.
