Core Academic Program - Elementary

2-Day Home & School Core Academic Program (CAP)

What People are saying about CAP:

“We are very pleased with the quality of teaching and the excellent curriculum materials. Our son loves his teacher and his class, and we feel that the structure and accountability for him has been a very positive thing.”   Dora

“Every night, I say a prayer of thanks for NorthPointe Christian School, for my husband and I are so grateful for their home school programs.  CAP has been the ideal situation for our daughter, as it provides meaningful instruction, structure, group interactions and hands-on activities in a classroom setting, yet it also allows for plenty of discipleship, instructional, and leisure moments together at home.” Beth

“I really want to come back to the CAP program next year.  I want to thank Mrs. Luke and Mrs. DeLong for teaching the students more about Christ’s love.  I enjoy the CAP program and I love my teachers.”  Leah - 3rd grade CAP student

“We are thrilled to have two of our children in the CAP program this year.  Partnering with such experienced and enthusiastic teachers adds another dimension to our home schooling.  It has provided another layer of education in teaching our children discipline, responsibility and accountability while they strive to achieve academic excellence.” Theresa

All CAP students are students of NPCS which is accredited by both NCA and CSI and in compliance with the State of Michigan's educational standards.

Parents Role in Elementary CAP

In the elementary parents will serve as "co-teacher" in the satellite classroom at home.  Parents will receive instructions from the teacher on a regular basis outlining home assignments, and preparations needed for the next class.  They will also take extensive responsibility for direct instruction in some courses (e.g., spelling, vocabulary, and penmanship).  Parents will be highly encouraged to volunteer in the classroom approximately 6 times throughout the year.

Purchasing Curriculum

Due to the fact that parents will be teaching at home from the same books and curriculum that will be used in the classroom, parents will need to purchase some books and curriculum. A complete and final list of items that parents will need to purchase will be given to families who have registered for the CAP following their interview with the elementary principal, Mr. Gordon Nickel. The approximate retail cost of the CAP books and curriculum will be $250. NPCS will be happy to purchase your curriculum for you through the Home School Building, who will give us a volume discount.  Order forms will be given to each family along with the list of curriculum. If a family wishes to purchase their books individually, many of our books can be loaned from the library or purchased online but we also like to encourage people to use the Home School Bookstore located in the Home School Building at 5625 Burlingame Ave. SW, Wyoming, MI. The Home School Building is an important ministry to West Michigan and when we purchase through their bookstore, it helps to keep the ministry alive. If you are interested in purchasing from there, we recommend that you call the 616-532-9422 to ask about particular titles and store hours.
